2)Important Alumni Survey

The University of Guam is collecting data and feedback from our alumni regarding the campus services that were available to them, as well as their success in finding employment in their field. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to respond to the following survey which will help us to better understand the needs of our growing alumni network.

The survey consists of 40 questions and it will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You will also be asked to answer questions pertaining to: your gender, your educational status, and your occupational status. The information obtained will be kept in confidence. Names will only be able to be traced by the researcher. The information may be used for statistical or scientific purposes without identifying you as an individual.

Guam IRA Receives Honorable Award in 59th Annual Convention


Congratulations to the GUAM COUNCIL for being recognized as an HONOR COUNCIL of the International Reading Association for its achievements in programs, membership promotion, and community service for eighteen (18) years.

The Guam Council of the International Reading Association (IRA) received the Honor Council award during IRA's 59th Annual Convention held in New Orleans.  GC-IRA is to be commended on making a difference in the literacy development of our island's children of all ages.

GC-IRA helps educators and parents alike discover the wonder and the worlds to be found in books. Guam IRA is a professional organization for individuals who are genuinely concerned with the development of reading programs for children and adults. It is a group of people who work together to improve literacy and reading instruction in Guam and Micronesia. Congratulations Spring 2014 Graduates!

UOG President, Dr. Robert Underwood, addresses 291 graduates, families, and friends during the commencement.
The University of Guam celebrated the graduation of its 291 students on May 25, 2014 at the UOG Field House. The Commencement Ceremonies featured keynote speaker President Tommy Remengesau Jr. of the Republic of Palau. Remengesau impressed upon the need to preserve island values using modern ideas. Congratulations Spring 2014 graduates!

2nd FestPac Workshop, Connect Me * Create Me* Promote Me Series

Visual Arts Committee: Create Me…Preservation and Quality Arts Workshop

This workshop is the second in a set of three being offered by Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities with funding from the Guam Visitors Bureau and support from Guam Preservation Trust and Guampedia. The workshop is being offered to keep Guam artists current with plans for the Festival of the Pacific scheduled for 2016 on Guam, and improve their knowledge on how they can better prepare their works for a professional display.

Description:  This session will engage parents in a discussion on the importance of starting with the end-in-mind- the long term goals for their child - to determine the educational supports needed, including the use of one-to-one aides.

ABOUT THE CONSULTANT:
Dr. Cathy Pratt is the Director of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community located at Indiana University. Dr. Pratt is on faculty at Indiana University, and presents internationally. Dr. Pratt serves on numerous Advisory Boards, including the Advisory Boards of Maap Services, Inc., the College Internship Program, the Autism Society of Indiana, and the Temple Grandin/Eustacia Cutler Autism Fund. In the past, she served on the Board of the national Autism Society and is the Immediate Past Chair. Dr. Pratt also serves on the Panel of Professional Advisors for the Autism Society and is a member of NATTAP (Network of Autism Training and Technical Assistance Programs). Dr. Pratt also assists with the coordination of the Autism Special Interest Group (SIG) through the Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD). She served as a member of the public review committee for the Research Roadmap of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee and in 2010 was invited to the White House to provide feedback on the president’s initiatives on autism spectrum disorders. She writes and presents on the following topics: autism spectrum disorders, functional behavior assessment/positive behavior supports, applied behavior analysis, instructional approaches, systems change, and policy. Prior to pursuing her doctorate at Indiana University, Dr. Pratt worked as a classroom teacher for students across the autism spectrum and with other disabilities. Dr. Pratt earned her BCBA and is now a board certified behavior analyst.

FESTPAC - May 22-June 4, 2016

CAHA/PREL Talk Story Workshop

The Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) and the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) in collaboration with the Literary Arts Group of the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts Festival and the Guam Preservation Trust invite writers, storytellers and educators to a Talk Story Workshop. The theme for the workshop is the FestPac theme: “" What We Own, What We Have, What We Share, United Voices of the Pacific - Hafa Iyo-ta, Hafa Guinaha-ta, Hafa Ta Patte, Dinanna' Sunidu Siha Giya Pasifiku".

Presenters and topics for the workshop include Terrie Perez – Timeline/Storyline Process; Dr. Matilda Naputi Rivera – Historical Value of the Stories to be written; PK Harmon – Publication Matters; Leiana Naholowaa – Developing Program Topic of Stories; Dr. Monique Carriveau Storie – Techniques; Louie Gombar – Oral Presentation; and Antonia Masga Salas – Storytelling. Some stories resulting from this project will be featured in a PREL publication.

The workshop is FREE and scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3 & 10, 2014 at AV#1, RFK Library, University of Guam in Mangilao. UOG Theater's Production of Pagat

University Theater closes its 2013-2014 season with the play PÃ¥gat, written by local writers Dr. Michael Lujan Bevacqua and Victoria-Lola Leon Guerrero, directed by Michelle Blas, and featuring choreography by Vince Reyes of Inetnon Gef PÃ¥’go. PÃ¥gat explores the complexities of cultural identity and change through the lives of four modern young adults and the memories of a cast of spirits, who share key moments in the history of the Chamoru people. The play is set in a latte site in the jungles of PÃ¥gat. The play also conveys the essence of the word PÃ¥gat, which means to advise or give counsel, as both the modern characters and the ancient spirits help each other work through personal struggles with identity, culture, and destiny.

DATES: April 24-26 and May 1-3

TIMES: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Play starts at 7 p.m.

PLACE: University of Guam Fine Arts Theater

ADMISSION: $10.00 general admission, $7.50 students and seniors and FREE for all UOG and GCC students with student ID or schedule. Tickets can be purchased at the UOG box office on performance nights.

Having personally seen the PÃ¥gat play, I found it to be rather culturally powerful!  This is one play that you won't want to miss!  Un Danguklo Na Si Yu'os Ma'ase'!
