STORIES IN THE PARK: “Put si Tåta” - June 15

Master Storyteller Peter R. Onedera along with members of Ginen I Hila’ I Maga’taotao Siha Association will host an evening of storytelling focusing on “Put si Tåta” about DAD in the lives of families or individuals in tribute to Father’s Day.  The event will be held on the lawn area at the Skinner Plaza in Hågatña between the Guam Museum and the memorial statue on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  Those attending this informal gathering must bring along mats, lawn chairs, chairs, benches or cushions as well as umbrellas in case of a change in weather.   Stories from individuals will be encouraged and welcomed with time allotments anywhere from five minutes to eight minutes depending on expected enthusiastic responses and those willing to share a story about fathers or father figures, living or deceased.  Please contact Onedera at peteronedera@gmail.com for inclusion in the evening’s line-up.  This would be a wonderful opportunity for DADS to attend with their families.

May 20 through 26, 2017 is National Safe Boating Week. The public is invited to attend the celebration of Guam Safe Boating Week, part of the 2017 North American Safe Boating Campaign. Sponsored jointly by the U.S. Coast Guard, USCG Auxiliary, and the National Safe Boating Council, the safe boating activities are designed to increase the awareness of safety for boaters and water enthusiasts.  This campaign will kick-off with a Proclamation signing on May 19, 2017 issued by the Lt. Gov. Raymond Tenorio.

A legislative resolution introduced by Senator Telena Nelson will also be presented during the annual National Safe Boating Display at the Agana Shopping Center on Sunday, May 21, 2017.  The display will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and feature safety equipment and capabilities of each participating agency.
In an effort to promote safe recreational boating, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will continue its volunteer service by providing safe boating information.  Those interested in a free vessel safety check may also contact the USCG Auxiliary.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard created by an Act of Congress in 1939.
